Twigs Celebrates a New Year: The World is our Oyster

A good still life is especially potent at New Year’s. The one featured above, thought to be by Dutch master Johannes Honnet of the 17th century, reveals how much we feel the world to be our oyster.

Perhaps you had one as the ball dropped at midnight?

Celebration beckons with goblets full to overbrimming. The greening of grapevines and assorted twigs translates to a verdancy in our efforts. Boutique sales, a sort of daily bread, we leaven with kindness and a keenness for thrift.

So be sure to stop in. Shop a while. Speak with our ladies about how to lend a hand. And become implicated in our mission so that Honnet’s canvas more than symbollizes the fruits of our labors; it should breathe with the possibility of our collective strokes.

Come paint your passion for Northern Westchester Hospital by accepting our outstretched olive branch. . . vine. . . twig. May peace, love, and philanthropy reign supreme this very special 2017.

Congratulations to our very own Hayedeh Daftari, who won our Social Media Campaign challenge with the best “Tale of Transformation.”

Not only does her “Twigs mobile” create a fascinating narrative for what to do with “treasures” (culled from our shelves), but her brilliant cushions and tablecloth are conjured from several yards of our beautiful fabric (often available by the bolt!).

She explains her color at this time is “basically green. And a little bit of red. And this and that. Because I’ve set up the Christmas ornaments now.”

Yet her terrace warms the cockles of our wintry hearts for its verdant promise of spring. Exuberant cherry blossoms complement the layering of pretty textiles, which is an effect we could also achieve.

Hayedeh says, “My terrace is always decorated. I have to. . . Because all my paint is uner the table. Therefore, I must decorate!”

Thank you, Hayedeh, for transforming your Twigs treasures into even more sensational pieces and for inspiring us to do the same with ours. You have the eye for color, shape, and form. . . A painterly touch in all things.

Twigs is a dedicated group of volunteers who work together to benefit the patients and community served by Northern Westchester Hospital.  We raise funds through sales at our boutique, the Twigs Thriftree, which carries a variety of donated items and is staffed by our enthusiastic volunteers.  Our organization also offers personal outreach to patients by creating comfort pillows for adult and pediatric surgery patients, layettes for newborns in the Prenatal Care Center, and tray favors.

Twigs supports Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH), with a stated vision of providing “the highest quality healthcare within a supportive community setting and state-of-the-art facilities.”  To learn more about NWH, please visit
